So, before I make this diamond feels like to be beyond godlike kind of diamond (which is not by the way), let me highlight that this is an AGS graded diamond, which some may think it as GIA equivalent, while some local jewelers will take it as a more lenient lab than GIA. While I can agree that GIA is still the world de facto standard, and sometimes they may be different grading level that may occur, I don't think I come across a huge amount of data that correctly justify which lab is better, at this point of writing. The only thing I can comfortably confirm is that AGS takes in GIA Faint Fluorescence as Negligible Fluorescence by their standard, other than that, personally, I don't bother looking for it because I don't think we will ever find one. Of course, standing from a consumer point of view, when have doubts, take the standard, which are GIA graded diamonds. But, if you are someone like me, who wishes to know more on the overall cut quality and cut precision of the diamond itself, then I really think you can safely say that Brian Gavin Diamonds are one of the top in the market. Brian Gavin himself, as a 5th generation cutter, is a highly respectable figure in the diamond industry, and Black by Brian Gavin to date, is his best production.There are really no 100% perfect diamond in the world, but one can surely put in 110% best effort to strive to get as close as possible, and this is what Black by Brian Gavin is all about as far as I am concerned.

Now, if you are striving for GIA graded diamonds with superb cut quality like this, maybe Brian Gavin Diamonds can help, but this may consider a custom piece and the price will be much more different - Oh well, just a guess, but anything custom should incur extra charge, and we are talking about USD! So, if you ask me where to get such diamonds, my best bet will be Jann Paul from Singapore. They also use ASET, IdealScope, Hearts & Arrows scope, just like Brian Gavin Diamonds, and their stones are graded by GIA. Not to mention, their stones are also in-house, hence, one can just make an appointment and walk-in to have an education session with them and see how good is their diamonds in real life. However, since they are based in Singapore, it may not be so convenient for all of us to just walk-in, hence, but fret not, you can engage them via Facebook and do the transaction just purchase them online, as long as you are comfortable with it.

Of course, some of you may know that I also take in some GIA graded diamonds occasionally for resale. Personally, I will say the stones I take in will have above average cut quality, and I do take ASET, IdealScope, Hearts & Arrows image as well and post in on my Facebook page, so if you are interested, you may have a look too. While I won't say all of the Hearts will be as great as the Black by Brian Gavin diamond above, but for its price and quality, I can comfortably say that my stones is quite value for money. Of course, since I am that owns the stones, you just take what I said with a pinch of salt and judge for yourself.

All right, enough of detour, let's get back to this diamond. Hmm...... I really have nothing to say? It is still the usual stuff - The small table, the complementary pairing between the crown and pavilion angle, etc. Oh, with one thing to highlight - Brian Gavin himself sees something different in this diamond compared to their signature diamonds, and hence, it was handpicked to be categorized as a Black by Brian Gavin. Can one sees the different if compared side-by-side? Well, we can't know for sure, but based on how long I have dealt with all these diamond companies, I come to know that Brian Gavin takes his craft seriously so when he agrees that this diamond is a good fit for his top category, then I will trust him wholeheartedly.

For this diamond, I can have 2 options to transfer. Yes, I discover a new one recently, and it is TransferWise! If you are adventurous enough to try it out, then you can use my referral link, your first RM 500 transaction will be free of any service fee, but your remaining balance is chargeable, if I read the below message correctly: "they get a free international transfer of up to RM 500".
Free international transfer for first RM 500, remaining balance may not
Is it safe? I think 99% it is, since it is approved by Bank Negara Malaysia. But let me wait for my first transaction to Belgium go through successfully first - Yes, I am taking in 3 diamonds from Antwerp, Belgium, which I will post it on my Facebook page once I received them, so stay tuned. Maybe some of you may feel strange why my stones are coming from Belgium, this is because no thanks to the fucking COVID-19 virus, Hong Kong office can't send out any parcel and this has caused my shipping cost to go up almost 3 fold. But oh well, I can't missed out some nice diamonds in the inventory, since my friend is also looking for one, so yup, stay tuned!

Here comes the part I like - Price comparison. As most of you may know, I always recommended MoneyMatch, so let's compare!
MoneyMatch costs RM 3350.23, including RM 8 service fee

TransferWise costs RM 3335.32, including RM 22.11 service fee
As you can see, TransferWise is cheaper! But, for first timer on MoneyMatch, you can use my referral code REF_ACOO for RM 30 off for first transfer. So that brings the costs from RM 3350.23 to RM 3320.23, and it is now cheaper than TransferWise. Now, I have not included the "free international transfer of up to RM 500" from TransferWise, so I cannot make a 100% comparison, but let's have some fun calculating (could be wrong, so take note):

USD 800 / 0.241458 = RM 3313.205609257096 = RM 22.11 service fee
So, using algebra
RM 500 = RM A service fee

To get A, RM 3313.205609257096 x RM A = RM 22.11 x RM 500
3313.205609257096A = 11055
A = 3.3366477375 = RM 3.34

So you get to save RM 3.34.

Ok, so MoneyMatch is still cheaper, so please proceed to use MoneyMatch for this stone.

However, let me highlight one thing, at this rate, if you buy a stone that costs approximately USD 2000, paying via TransferWise (at the time of writing) is actually slightly cheaper, even if you include my referral code for MoneyMatch discount. USD 2000 will be for stones around 0.5ct for colourless range. Besides, it seems that TransferWise allows you to use your credit card for payment, but of course, you will need to pay the extra credit card service fee, on top of the existing service fee:

TransferWise is able to accept credit card it seems, but of course, you will need the relevant extra service fee
Now, recently a Lowyat forumer told me that he is worried that there are no jewelers that are willing to set diamonds into a ring. But worry not, they will surely be some, it is just a matter of price. For now, I am still recommending Memory Jewellery for ring setting starting from RM 1400. Very minor custom detail for existing ring designs can be requested, but full custom based on your own design will be chargeable at a higher rate. I found another one called MS Jewels located at Old Klang Road and I am planning to test it out soon if I have the budget and time, so fingers crossed.

Ok, that's all for now. Drop me a message via my Facebook page if you have any questions.
