Friendlier Diamond Prices Recently!

Source: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-11-13/the-problem-with-diamonds-is-they-keep-getting-cheaper

I noticed that recently there are news that the diamond rough price has dropped. This is based on the info I gathered casually from my Google news feed. You can also read it here on Bloomberg. Hence, it is not surprising that the newer diamonds these days are having a better price even if they have better specs compared to their earlier diamond siblings.

For example, if we view the Black by Brian Gavin collection, this Black by Brian Gavin diamond that is fresh from the oven costs USD 781, which converts to approximately RM 3274.27. Add on a simple solitaire ring setting from companies like Memory Jewellery, which will set you back a further RM 1400 (they usually deduct RM 99 off their usual price for walk-in customers), your final engagement ring will be less than RM 4700, which is not bad I would say.

Next, we can find a slightly larger diamond, which will cost USD 1256, which converts to approximately RM 5265.66. Again, add a simple custom ring will cost an additional RM 1400, if we use Memory Jewellery as example. So, the final price will be less than RM 6700. Again, not too bad. Of course, you can find cheaper at some local brick-and-mortar stores with some sacrifices on proportions and cut quality most of the time, so there is always give and take.

Of course, now is also a good time to get some dreamy diamonds with good colour and clarity, such as these WhiteFlash ACA Collection Series:

Diamond 1 - 0.428 ct D VVS2 A CUT ABOVE® Hearts and Arrows Diamond

Diamond 2 - 0.426 ct D VVS2 A CUT ABOVE® Hearts and Arrows Diamond

Diamond 3 - 0.408 ct D VVS2 A CUT ABOVE® Hearts and Arrows Diamond

Of course, after viewing the performance images, I can still pick on things for these diamonds. For example, I can see that the ASET for diamond 2 and diamond 3 is not as good as diamond 1. But if we look at the ASET on the AGS grading report, all of them looks lovely. But for peace of mind, if you want the best ASET, get diamond 1.

Now, if we look at the Hearts, diamond 2 has the best hearts. So if you want the best Hearts, get diamond 2.

Now, if we want the best price, then of course, get the cheapest among them, which is the smaller diamond 3. Some of you may know that I don't prefer star length below 50%, but these days I would recommend you to take a look at the performance video first. For diamond 3, the performance is great.

Of course, performance, which one I would pick. Well, after viewing and viewing and viewing, I think I will go with diamond 1, it has a good balance of brilliance and fire and I really like the pairing of crown angle and pavilion angle. On top of that, the small table size that is close to 55% and the lower girdle length of 76% can also help to return some excellent fire and bold sparks.
