LUMOS by ZCOVA

LUMOS by ZCOVA
Before I begin, I always find that the name sounds familiar, perhaps it is inpsired by Harry Porter's Lumos spell:
Lumos Harry Porter

OK. Let's start.

As some of you may know,  recently ZCOVA has launched a new line called LUMOS. What is LUMOSLUMOS is the name given to the diamonds selected by ZCOVA's in-house GIA Graduate Gemologist, Zi Yin. With years of experience in the industry, Zi Yin has grow strong in picking some of the best performing diamonds from various source of suppliers around the world.

Now, some of you may wonder, how different is ZCOVA's selection criteria compared to my own selection criteria? Well, all I can say is that we have some different views, for instance, I usually select a diamond based on proportions, images and videos, if they are available, and I do fancy Hearts & Arrows and also IdealScope an ASET images. How about ZCOVA? Well, ZCOVA also rely on images and videos and as far as I observerd (yes, based on my own observation), he can accept a wider set of proportions. Is this a problem? Well, after seeing more and more diamonds myself, I can say that there are certainly good diamonds out there and it is certainly not limited to WhiteFlash ACA specifications. Just that buying within that ACA specifications can increase your chance of getting a decent performer. And now, with ZCOVA's expertise, I have full confident that he can choose the best diamonds out there, especially with the introduction of LUMOS, which requires him to stay at the top of his game.

A Comparion Between a Good and an Excellent Diamond. I am expecting LUMOS to perform like the one to the right

What is so special about LUMOSLUMOS is ZCOVA's answer for light performance measurement. I will see it as an answer to IdealScope and ASET. As mentioned above, ZCOVA does not use both IdealScope and ASET for their diamonds because they think that the color coded images can be manipulated easily and does not benefit the customers too much - Well, this is a fair point and I can agree to a certain extent, as what they said makes perfect sense but I am still a firm believer of the benefit of IdealScope and ASET. But hey, now is not the time to glorify both of that, instead, I want you to focus on the effort that ZCOVA has put in to bring extra benefit to their customers. In order to achieve the curious question about light performance, ZCOVA has walked the extra mile to compete with multiple strong competitors in the local scene to bid for the GemEx BrillianceScope 2. Being a relatively new company in the industry, they do not have full confident that they can win the bid. However, they surprised even themselves that they are able to win the bid to be the only GemEx partner in Malaysia and Singapore. They will be the ONLY one as GemEx only allow one partner in one country, and apparently they managed to score 2 countries! So, I would say this is a big step for ZCOVA. Congrats! Zi Wei, one of the founder of ZCOVA, is so happy with this that he asked me to drop by whenever I can on the day they received the GemEx BrillianceScope 2 machine from the United States.

According to ZCOVA, each diamond scan that is sent to GemEx will cost that USD 150. However, this is a cost that they will absorb and this is certainly a very nice gesture from ZCOVA for their customers. As mentioned in my previous article, what ZCOVA doing is something similar to what BlueNile did for its ASTOR collection. However, if you check out ASTOR's price, you will see that they are even more expensive than typical diamonds. This is probably due to the fact that it costs extra for each GemEx scan - A cost which ZCOVA absorbs. So, this means that ZCOVA's customers will still pay the same price as before and their customers can now obtained dual certificate - A GIA grading report/dossier and a GemEx Light Performance Report. One thing to note is that the GemEx Light Performance Report will be sent later to the customers as they are processed by GemEx in the United States. The customers, however, can most likely obtain a digital copy first which can be viewed from their digital devices. With this device, LUMOS by ZCOVA will be evaluated by a third party and this may increase the diamond's credibility in terms of performance.

GemEx Light Performance Measurement

Now, some may wonder how accurate is the device? Well, ZCOVA showed me a 1.5ct stone that has 33 degree crown angle and 41 degree pavilion angle. It has pretty good score. If my memory serves me well, the diamond scores a High in terms of Brilliance, and Very High in terms of Fire and Sparkle. Well, with such proportions, I am not surprised to see such result. Perhaps I will think that this diamond should score more in brilliance, but hey, the device has answered me, and the overall results returned is definitely not surprising, as such pairing can be found in some good stones. Also, with GemEx Brilliance Scope 2, it seems that it has managed to answer a question of consistency in terms of result that has plagued GemEx Brilliance Scope 1.

So, what I think about LUMOS by ZCOVA? It is certainly something I gladly welcome. It increases the possibility of getting a good diamond at a good price. On top of this, during the visit this time, there is something that is even more "LUMOS" than the diamonds that are being sold by ZCOVA - The customer care and the customer experience that they provide. If you don't like something? Talk to them, they will make it work, sometimes, even at their own expense - meaning they are losing money at their end. To them, reputation holds strong above all else, and I sincerely hope they will stay this way. I just loved how the reiterates a ring design until they get the correct design proportions, how they reiterates the colour and design of their packaging, which is absolutely terrific by the way, and also how they want to give you the affordable luxury experience by making their products as luxurious as it can be. I can literally sees how "glowing" Zi Yin can be when he talks about all these. One can hide a lot of things, but not such passion. He is certainly a natural in terms of these design aesthetics. And as ZCOVA grows, I can certainly see both brothers grow stronger too and complements each other well. A lot of companies can sell the same thing, but not many, will give you such a good experience.

Lastly, if you are looking to buy from ZCOVA, do mention that Yang Kin (yes, me) intro you to them (yes, ZCOVA). You can get RM 50 off for your first purchase. Also, any subsequent wedding bands purchase will be entitled for RM 250 off too, if you purchase engagement ring from them. Why I take the effort to write such article? Well, I am affiliate with them, of course I will write about it. Will I write about it even if I am not? I can say yes as well, as long as they invite me to visit and experience how they do their business. Now, believe it or not, is entirely up to you. ;) This is the Internet after all, so, freedom of expression. ;) But trust me, shortlist them as one of the place for you to visit if you are on the hunt for an engagement ring. They are certainly not the only place, but it is a place worth mentioning again and again.

Hereby, I wish ZCOVA all the best in their future endeavours, and to my fellow readers, a very good health and happy life.
